Bril was never meant to be just another optometry practice. It was always about something bigger, something different.

It all started when Werner opened his first practice in George. From the beginning, he knew he wanted to do things differently. The traditional, clinical approach to optometry felt outdated and uninspiring. So he reimagined everything. He created a space with a coffee shop vibe, played café music, hosted trunk shows, and turned eyewear displays into a gallery-style experience. It was bold. It was fresh. And it worked.

Then along came Natasha. She was detail obsessed, passionate about people, and had a gift for making things run flawlessly. Where Werner had big ideas, Natasha made sure they became reality. Together, they were unstoppable.

After expanding to Johannesburg, they realized something important. The fast-paced city life did not align with the life they wanted. They both loved nature, adventure, and a sense of community. So they made a bold move. They packed up and headed to Paarl, a place that felt like home. With Afrikaans as their first language, starting something new in a town so deeply rooted in Afrikaans culture just made sense. And just like that, Bril was born.

We did not just want to sell glasses. We wanted to redefine what an optometry experience should be. Werner focused on building a brand and an atmosphere that made people feel something. Natasha ensured that behind every great idea was a rock-solid foundation of quality and service. This combination did not just make patients notice us. Other optometrists took note too.

That is when we faced a big decision. People wanted to open Bril spaces everywhere. But we knew growth could never come at the expense of what made Bril special. So we made a promise. Bril would never be just another optometry chain. Instead, only optometrists who truly aligned with our values could open a Bril space. And they had to own it.

That is how Bril became a franchise that feels nothing like a franchise. Each space is unique but the heart of Bril remains the same. We are a place where eyewear meets joy, where quality is non-negotiable, and where every patient walks out feeling better, seeing better, and looking better.

Even today, we are very picky about who joins the Bril family. Because at the core of everything we do, there is one mission that will never change.
