Our flagship location is tucked inside a beautifully preserved Georgian-style building from the 1800s, right in the heart of this historic town.
As you step in, you’ll notice the grand high ceilings giving the space a touch of elegance. But what really makes Bril Gallery stand out is our unique take on eyewear. To us, frames aren’t just accessories—they’re works of art. That’s why we call it “Gallery”—a space where we showcase the finest eyewear in a setting that feels more like an art exhibit than a regular optometry practice.
One of the quirkiest features here is our playful wallpaper: the Mona Lisa wearing designer glasses! It’s our fun twist on a timeless classic and brings out Bril’s light-hearted spirit.

Marlize Bothma
Optometrist

Meet Marlize, our optometrist at Bril Gallery in Paarl. There was a time when Marlize felt a bit uninspired by optometry, finding it dull and routine. But after joining Bril, everything changed. Surrounded by creativity and a fresh perspective, she rediscovered her passion. Now, Marlize enjoys helping clients find frames that not only sharpen their vision but also reflect their personal style. At Bril, she’s more than just an optometrist—she’s an eyewear artist, bringing joy back to the craft she once thought she’d lost. Meet Taryn, our optical assistant with the best laugh you’ll ever hear! She’s been in optometry for 7 years, bringing her cheerful energy to everything she does. Rynhardt is one of our customer service experts. Before joining us, he worked as a lab technician and has become a pro at repairing frames.

Fun Fact

Marlize was one of the first graduates from the University of the Free State’s optometry department. But here’s a fun fact—she also has a background in interior design! With her keen eye for detail, Marlize brings a unique blend of style and vision to everything she does at Bril. When Taryn’s not helping clients, you’ll probably find her with a good book in hand or swimming like a dolphin at the beach—her two favourite ways to unwind! Rynhardt often wears a tie, and in his spare time, he has also done some modelling.

Bril in Paarl was our first store in South Africa, opened in 2017, with a goal to bring back a great eyewear experience.

Meet Charlotte, our other “team member”. Charlotte is an AI machine equipped with 9 cameras to take precise measurements for a perfect lens fit, and she can even suggest frames for you!
